Traveling to Europe is going to change starting early 2024.

The rules of travel to Europe have changed. Starting early 2024, some 1.4 billion people from over 60 visa-exempt countries are required to have a travel authorization to enter 30 European countries.

The EU’s Pre-Approval Process

ETIAS is not a visa. Similar travel authorizations for visa-exempt nationals are required by the US, Canada and Australia. Therefore, you will be able to apply for ETIAS online.  There is no need to go to a Consulate to apply.

To clarify, the 30 European countries requiring ETIAS are only for a short-term stay (up to 90 days in any 180-day period). ETIAS is not for anyone looking to study, work or remain on the territory long-term. You will need to apply for a visa in this case.

Understanding the ETIAS Application Process

European countries have implemented user-friendly online platform. Travelers will need to provide personal information and travel details.

The ETIAS application fee is $8 and will be good for three years or when your passport expires. Whichever comes first.

Remember that there is only one official ETIAS website: travel-europe.europa.eu/etias

Staying Informed

In conclusion, stay informed when you travel to Europe and check for the latest developments about the countries you will be visiting. The official websites of the U.S. Department of State and the embassies or consulates of the European countries on your itinerary will provide the most up-to-date information regarding visa requirements, entry restrictions, and any pre-approval processes in place. as mentioned above.

With all that fear, it’s much easier to stay at home in our comfort
zones than to break out and travel.
